Charlie Gitto’s Italian Restaurant
Our Story
Charlie Gitto's is an iconic restaurant nestled in the Italian neighborhood “The Hill,” in the heart of St. Louis, Missouri. With a rich history spanning over 40 years, it has become a beloved institution and a must-visit destination for locals and visitors alike.
Step inside and be greeted with an inviting atmosphere of warm wood, soft lighting, and classic Italian décor. Charlie Gitto's restaurant showcases the beauty of Italian cuisine with a Sicilian-inspired menu prepared with the finest and freshest ingredients. One of the highlights of dining at Charlie Gitto's is our signature toasted ravioli—a St. Louis specialty for which we are famous. These golden, crispy pockets of pasta are filled with traditional ingredients and are a must-try for any visitor. Our extensive wine list features both domestic and imported Italian wines, and was recognized by Wine Spectator with the Award of Excellence.
A Piece of
St. Louis History
Over the past 40 years, Charlie Gitto's has won numerous awards and accolades, including being named one of the nation’s top 50 Italian restaurants by OpenTable. We have been featured in The New York Times, Feast, Tasting Table, Epicurious, Fox 2 and KSDK.
In 2004, a second restaurant, Charlie Gitto's "From the Hill", opened in what was then Harrah's Casino. Still today, the team at Gitto's strives to bring Italian fine-dining traditions of the Hill to this location in the suburbs of St. Louis.
Charlie Gitto's on the Hill is a symbol of culinary excellence in St. Louis. It embodies the spirit of the neighborhood and the warmth of Italian hospitality. Let yourself be captivated by the flavors, the ambience, and the genuine passion that defines the iconic Charlie Gitto’s on the Hill.

Our Promise…
Opened in 1981 by Charlie Gitto Jr., the original location stands as a landmark for Italian fine dining in The Hill neighborhood. Before it was Charlie Gitto’s the restaurant, it was called Angelo’s and it is where Charlie’s father was a Maître d'hôtel. As young as nine years old, Charlie would join his father to help with small jobs like peeling potatoes and polishing the brass. At the time no one could imagine that he would grow up to purchase the restaurant from Angelo himself and turn it into one of the top Italian restaurants in St. Louis and the country.
Since its inception, the focus has been on sharing our family’s Sicilian roots with the community we love. This goes beyond the dishes we serve. Charlie Gitto Jr., and his family are honored to continually support local organizations and initiatives such as the Children’s Miracle Network and local Catholic Charities.
We believe in crafting an exceptional experience where everyone is celebrated and encouraged to enjoy the special moments of life through the rich traditions of Italian food and hospitality.
